Summer Day #37

Sunday,
June 30th, 2013.
Julian Date: 181
Sunrise: 6:33am
Sunset: 8:40pm
14 hours 7 minutes.
Hallmark Holiday:
National Meteor Day

At the risk of ruining the magic of falling stars, we must tell you that what you're actually seeing is a space rock hurling towards the planet, but burning up as it hits Earth's atmosphere.  It might be a scary thought, but meteors are pretty common and nothing to fear! If you think this sounds cool, then join us in celebrating this holiday by checking out the night sky.  Perhaps you'll even have a chance to make a wish on a chunk of high-speed space rock.

Last day of June, half of 2013 is done.

Big girl wanted to stay in town to attend a Church Youth Meeting, I don't think she's going to get up in time to attend it.

Little guy wanted his hot-dogs grilled. We fired it up and he ate all three that he asked for.

Rumbling thunder at bedtime.

Today we honor America's tallest folk hero, who hung out with a blue ox named Babe and wore size XXXXXXXXXXL plaid shirts.  Paul Bunyon started out as an advertising campaign for a logging company in the early twentieth century, and over time his legend caught on and gained popularity.  Various towns across the country display massive Paul Bunyon statues and tourists from far and near come to check out his magnificent beard.

VBS is done, over with, finished, kaput.

Hallmark Holiday:
National Catfish Day

It was President Reagan who issued a proclamation in 1987 making today National Catfish Day.  Maybe he was impressed that there are over 3,000 catfish species known to man.  Or maybe he just liked a good fried catfish sandwich.  Whatever his reasons, see if you can find a way to celebrate this whiskered fish today.

It did rain, it really rained, thus I did not mow, really didn't mow.
Taco Bell Happy Hour 2 - 5 $1 Loaded Grillers & Medium Drink.

Summer Day #30

June 23rd, 2013.

Summer Day #29

Saturday,
June 22nd, 2013
Julian Date: 173
Sunrise: 6:30am
Sunset: 8:39pm
14 hours 8 minutes

Hallmark Holidays:
National Chocolate Éclair Day

The word Éclair may have you daydreaming about the decadent custard-filled pastry, but the term is actually French for 'lightning.'  We're hard pressed to come up with many similarities between the dessert and the meteorological phenomenon, except for maybe they both make your hair stand on end.  So while you may never be struck twice by lightning, chances are great you'll be struck many times by the serious craving for a chocolate Éclair.  Indulge those cravings today.

And

National Onion Rings Day

Though they share the day with the chocolate éclair, onion rings are way on the opposite end of the culinary sophistication spectrum.  But that doesn't mean they're any less amazing.  A fast food staple and the perfect side dish substitution when potatoes just don't offer enough pizzazz, onion rings are the greasy treats that always ring true.

Movies coming out this weekend:
World War Z &  Monsters University.

Big Girl wants to go to Saturday Vigil Mass, so we did.
A little Wendy's Frosty afterwards.

Now good-night.

Summer Day #27

Thursday,
June 20th, 2013.
Julian Date: 171
Sunrise: 6:30am
Sunset: 8:39pm
14 hours 8 minutes
Hallmark Holiday:
National Vanilla Milkshake Day

Before milkshakes were ordered at diners and malt shops across the country, they were ordered in bars.  That's because the name "milkshake" was first given to an alcoholic concoction of whiskey and eggs (ew, by the way).  We're not sure who decided to take out the whiskey and the eggs and add the ice cream and the milk, but thank you, whoever you are.  So order yourself a milkshake today.  And since it's specifically vanilla milkshake day, skip the crazy flavors and cookie chunks and keep it simple.

I think this is what Ethan Wate was trying to quote in Beautiful Creatures - “Some lose all mind and become soul, insane.
some lose all soul and become mind, intellectual.
some lose both and become accepted”

The FedEx man dropped the large envelope off today. I signed on the dotted lines and mailed it off to the Big Guy in VA.  Sent a little box to OH also.
Picked up BK on the way home, got Vanilla Milk Shake.

Worked on making an Old Glory in Excel. I'll show it in 14 days.

Big Girl got an invite to use ooVoo.

Sent Netflix Disc back in today's mail. Next up is Mr Poppers Penguins. I told the kids it has nothing to do with the book. It's a "get the dad back" movie. It has nothing to do with us.

Summer Day #26

Wednesday,
June 19th, 2013
Julian Date: 170
Sunrise: 6:30am
Sunset: 8:39pm
14 hours 8 minutes of daylight

Hallmark Holiday:
Juneteenth

Today recognizes the emancipation of slaves in Texas.  While the Emancipation Proclamation was effective as of January 1, 1863, Texas resisted.  On June 19, 1865, the Union General delivered an order to the people of Texas that all slaves were to be freed and treated equally.  Juneteenth is a day to celebrate abolition and African American heritage.

Hot in Cleveland starts back up tonight at 10:00pm on TVland season 4 episode 13 It's Alive.

Our next DVD in our Netflix queue came in. We watched Beautiful Creatures.  It wasn't to bad.

Hallmark Holiday: Apple Strudel.
National Apple Strudel Day

Apple strudel is a layered pastry filled with apples' sort of like pie, but strudely. It is also the national food of Austria along with Weinerschnitzel and Tafelspitz.  Have all three at the same time and that is one meal that's fun to pronounce.

in·flam·ma·ble

adjective

Why does flammable and inflammable mean the same thing?
(West Wing season 4 episode 3 College Kids).

I got an idea again while watching West Wing.

Do you like it?

Started the Tron Uprising XD on Netflix Streaming.  19 episodes.

Ending the day with an episode of Cape.

Summer Day #23

Sunday,
June 16th, 2013.
Third Sunday of June = Happy Father's Day.
Sorry we can't be together today but we will soon. Sorry your gift didn't get mailed out, I'll bring it up with us.

Went to noon Mass where big girl alter served. They had to have a quick refresher course before hand and a reminder to go a little slower for Father Marv.

After Mass, Winn-Dixie shopping. Little guy wanted beef jerky.

Back home and waiting for Skype time.

Had a nice family Skype moment. Found out he already has 1 1/2 of what I thought of for his Dad's Day gift. Oh well, he can use it as a door-stop then.

Finally viewed the pilot episode to Twisted. I don't think I'll be telling the kids when that comes on.

And now for some shut-eye moments...

Summer Day #20

Thursday,
June 13th, 2013

Julian Date: 164

Sunrise: 6:29am
Sunset: 8:37pm
14 hrs 7 mins

Today is $1 Show at 10am.  We'll be seeing Madagascar 3, since we don't own that one.

It is only a 93 minute movie, however when you start it 15 minutes passed and then you have to work your way through the bottle neck exit it takes more like two hours.
After we left he headed to Little Caesars.  I got a pie per kid. One Pepperoni, and one Cheese for $10.70.
Back home.  I had one slice of each.

For anyone that doesn't know any more to "Fireworks" by Katy Perry than boom, boom, boom here are the Lyrics from http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Firework-lyrics-Katy-Perry/DC5E37AD26DDD65B4825778800139058

Do you know that there's still a chance for you
'Cause there's a spark in you

You just gotta ignite, the light, and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"
You're gonna leave 'em all in awe, awe, awe

You don't have to feel like a waste of space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe you're reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will GLOW
And when it's time, you'll know

You just gotta ignite, the light, and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, Oh, Oh"
You're gonna leave 'em all in awe, awe, awe

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It's always been inside of you, you, you
And now it's time to let it through-ough-ough

'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go "Oh, Oh, Oh"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, Oh, Oh"
You're gonna leave 'em all in awe, awe, awe

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon

It happened again, I saw something and said to self I can reproduce that in word.
We still have not taken the picture for his present but I'm working on it.

Summer Day #18

Tuesday,
June 11th, 2013
Julian Date: 162
Sunrise: 6:29am
Sunset: 8:36pm
14 hours 7 minutes of daylight

Today, while browsing Pintrest I found this ... http://www.etsy.com/listing/88278351/push-it-real-good?utm_source=OpenGraph&utm_medium=PageTools&utm_campaign=Share.  Then I thought to myself ... "could I make this too?"  So off to the laptop I went.  I went to Target and found http://www.target.com/p/bonjour-monet-polished-stainless-steel-8-cup-french-press-coffee-maker/-/A-11347292#prodSlot=dlp_medium_1_15&term=coffee+press. I saved the picture of the coffee press.
Then into Microsoft Office Word I typed in Push It Real Good, inserted picture, saved as PDF. In Adobe Acrobat Pro I Saved As JPEG.
It doesn't look retro or antiqued, just normal and plain for today.

There are 19 images to scroll through.

I'm not done yet.  I found https://www.etsy.com/transaction/105632141 through Pinterest.  I made this ...
... I'll print it and frame it then use a dry erase marker to fill in the number of days and the upcoming event.

Dinner with the little guy at Taco Bell.  He again had eyes to big for his belly. Part two is in the refrigerator.

I got to go watch last nights episode of Longmire on my A&E app.

Summer Day #15

Saturday,
June 8th, 2013.

Hallmark Holidays says today is . . .
Best Friends Day

If you're lucky, you have a best friend.  And if you're really lucky, that best friend doesn't still make you wear your half of the best friend necklace you two bought at the mall in sixth grade.  Having a best pal is like having a sibling you got to pick out, and someone you can turn to for honest advice.  Today thank your best friend --or BFF if you're super hip-- for always being there and looking out for you.

Summer Day #14

Friday,
June 7th, 2013.

Has the storm passed?

Worked on making my daughters posted photo a little more my style.
I just keep thinking to myself  "One week until Man Of Steel"!

I headed out and got a new filter for the refrigerator water dispenser from Sears.
Then headed down to Sam's Club to buy some stuff we need (toilet paper) before the Instant Rebate closes out on June 9th.

After arriving back home we all settled in for the Parental Guidance movie. It didn't fit our family. We are not that dysfunctional. Nor do we have four living grandparents that fight over our kids.

Now it's a Good Friday Night to all.

Thursday, June 6, 2013

It's still raining out side.

Saturday,
June 1st, 2013.

It's June.

We did not go to the cinema.

Bryana recorded her Adventures of URSH.

I started a Flickr account and started following Secretary of Defense.

We have a guest staying over for the night.

June is here.
